Synergistic Explorations
by Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes
Section from "gestation, fecundation, germination": Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes, mixed media, August (2010). Private collection.
Section from the soft pastel painting entitled "Drippin" [Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes, August 2010, Personal Collection]. Pastel and fingers on watercolor paper.

Synergy is shown through the hybridization of the senses and flux of vital fluids –
a mix of blood, water, ear, nose, silhouettes, and other features.
Contrasts and shadows have been enhanced for the sake of this presentation,
showing in more detail residues, movements, and traces from the creative process.

Here we see a detail of a section from an acrylic piece entitled "Sonho de Kitkatla" [Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes, 2009-2010 - Private Collection]. This painting came up through dreams about the future. It has inspired a variety of interpretations, and depending on the side it is displayed, people see completely different things. This close-up shows the first point from which the whole painting emerged – its navel, flowering into a synergistic hybridization between the senses of animals and plants. Life, flow and surreal imaginations are some of the intrinsic elements I intended to express here.
Each line lives on its own language, differently to each of us
as our minds flow from contemplation to reflection,
there are no fixed sets of predetermined meanings...

"Renascimento" is a track from my latest CD release:  HABiTUS (2010)

Composed by Sandro Haick, with Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes (bass), Pepe Cisneros (keys), Sandro Haick (drums, percussion, guitar, bandolim), and Vinicius Dorin (flute). Produced by Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes, recorded by Sandro Haick, and mastered by Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound Studios, NY.
"Grasp" [Rodrigo Ferrari-Nunes (August 2010) – soft pastels and fingers on watercolor paper – private collection]. This piece did not capture my imagination as much as other pieces at the time I had just finished it. Many of my friends started to single it out as one that they would like to have hanging on their wall... These creations represent a segment of my own personal trajectory and acquire a life of their own through the eyes of others – they hybridize themselves through social synergy.
Some pieces are devoid of gravity. Inverting their orientation make alternative interpretations emerge.
I started out by trying to reference the flow of the acoustic upright bass,
and to create a hybrid creature the player becoming the instrument.

I wanted the player to also become "all ears",
and to have the musical tones and harmonies
expressed through different colors.

Music is color because color is vibration.
We are just too blind to see it.
When our bodies become one with our ears and instruments,
the passion that makes up genius and intensity
 finds the environment it needs
to reverberate its power
 to transform reality
 into an expressive,
 introspective,
extroverted
 and deep
 field of experience.

This artistic synergism
hybridizes contradictions
into new creative creatures,
free from linguistic barriers
and open to new possibilities.

Musicality is a journey into the unknown – the self relating with the world.

Improvisation is synthesis, moment, craft... dwelling

Tones shape emotions,
Memories fade,emerge,
Erupt and dissolve...
